I am loving these catch ups with our exhibitors, but my waistline is getting larger and larger. We had a lovely afternoon tea with Sophie from SuperDoux who will be selling scrumptious cupcakes, biscuits and more at our Boozy Xmas Market at Exeter Street Hall on the 10th December.
Q. Well hello there! First thing’s first… who are you and what do you do?
Hi! i’m Sophie, and I own SuperDoux (super sweet in French, you pronounce it like ‘super doo’!) I make all kinds of cakes, tarts, life-changing brownies, cupcakes, biscuits and chocolates. I make lots of vegan, gluten fee and sugar free bakes too and I take private commissions for arty celebration cakes. I also run cooking classes for kids.
Q. And how did you get into this business?
I’ve been baking since I was 3, and grew up in a incredibly foodie family! I love feeding people, and really love the science of baking in quite a nerdy way. I discovered a passion for creating personalised cakes while working in a childrens home, making special birthday cakes for all the kids there. I decided to set out on my own about a year ago now.
Q. What do you enjoy most about being the boss at your business?
I love the freedom that comes with it-being able to create new recipe’s and experiment with unusual ingredients. Every day is different!
Q. We are incredibly happy that you will be at our Boozy Xmas Market. Are you planning anything special for the day?.
I am going to bring a selection of super boozy Xmas drink themed cupcakes, including my favorites – mulled wine and chocolate orange! I’m also creating some yummy boozy hot chocolate spoons which make great stocking fillers!
Q. What’s your biggest selling product?
My refined-sugar-free banana and salted caramel cake sells out every time! My vegan cupcakes are also a winner for dairy-frees.
Q. How many markets and events would you estimate you attend in a year?
In the last year, I did about 15-20, I’ll definitely be looking to do more next year.
What, in your opinion, makes an enjoyable market for both seller and buyer?
If there is great communication, enthusiasm, and promotion from the organizers; if the event has been well thought out with a good range of stallholders and decorated and well-organised on the day. I love doing markets as I get to meet some really lovely and interesting local traders and the sense of community after working on the buisiness alone makes it all worthwhile.
Now some fun stuff
Q. Guilty pleasure song: GO!
I love Hot chocolate, ummm….’so you win again’ or ‘no doubt about it’
Q. Do you have a TV show you’re currently addicted to? (Not a Goggle-boxer? How about a favourite book right now?)
Im watching the american version of shameless on Netflix, its great!
Q. Which would you rather be: a Care Bear or a unicorn?!
Absolutely a care bear
